The JoanAlDakar.com campaign achieves its first objective in Verkami in order to finance the race of the first tetraplegic to compete in the Dakar Rally.
The crowdfunding initiative ‘Joan Al Dakar’, in order to raise funds for Joan Lascorz in his debut in the Dakar Rally, has managed to reach its first goal. The campaign orchestrated through the Verkami platform opened on December 9 and, in less than a fortnight, has already managed to raise €15,000.
This figure represents 100% of what was initially planned; now the next objective of the campaign is to continue to add to and expand this figure as much as possible to continue paying for the project. All contributions allow us to improve the means (spare parts, technical staff, health care, facilities during displacements …) for Joan Lascorz during the Dakar 2022 competition. Other drivers from the motor world, such as Marc Márquez, Pol Espargaró, Alex Rins, Jonathan Rea, Alex Lowes, Ana Carrasco, or Pedro Acosta have already given their support to this campaign.
The Verkami JoanAlDakar.com will remain active until January 8, including the possibility of achieving the rewards for those who participate: have their name on the Lascorz buggy, get the team’s T-shirt, or have access to an exclusive video-blog of the Dakar 2022 among others.
The road to Dakar by Joan Lascorz
Joan Lascorz (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, 1985) will be the first tetraplegic to participate in the Dakar Rally, which will celebrate its 44th edition from the 1st to the 14th of January 2022 in Saudi Arabia. Lascorz will compete in the race as a driver in the Side-by-Side category (SSV T4) with a UTV specially adapted to his needs, with the number 447 and with Miguel Puertas as co-pilot, within the Buggy Masters Team.
The path of Joan Lascorz to the Dakar Rally has been related in the documentary Una carrera inaccesible (An inaccessible career), which will premiere on December 23rd at 22.00 h on the #Vamos channel of the Movistar + platform.
